Tuition Payments & Class Participation During The Covid Stay-At-Home Order

We are writing to you today to discuss the issue of tuition payments during this uncertain time. We are unable to begin classes in-school until we are given the OK by our local and provincial governments and no one is certain when that might be. We could all be back in school by sometime in May or it might be until the summer and with this uncertainty, we wanted to address the issue of tuition payments at GFTeam Canada.

Our goal is simple: provide incentive and value to those that are able to continue to support us and provide those that are under financial duress a way to continue their education, exercise and relationship with our BJJ family.

These are tough times for all

At this current time, numerous other gyms and BJJ schools are dealing with unbending landlords and loss of students. A few of our BJJ community friends are closing their doors with no plans to re-open. We are also dealing with some of these issues but we are so thankful to our students who have continued to support us. We know that some of our BJJ family are dealing with incredibly stressful situations and uncertainty. We have been discussing this issue and have come up with some ideas about how we can thank our students for continuing to support us until after we are able to hold regular classes again.

As you know, we recently moved from the old school to the new location January 2020. What most may not know is that we knew that we would start in the red once we moved and that GFTeam Canada is the sole source of income for professor Rafael’s family and professor Gustavo and a couple others. We have been working with the landlord to figure out deferments and some rent forgiveness but we also do no qualify for any of the current relief programs for small businesses at this time.

Despite this, we believe with the support of our students and the help of our friends we can weather this storm and continue to support all of our students, whatever financial situation they may find themselves.

What sets GFTeam Canada apart

We are a young school, but one that has found great support and loyalty from our students which allowed us to grow into who we are today. Our students are some of the best in the city and we are thankful for that. We believe we provide some benefits to all our members that are unique from other schools in Greater Vancouver:

  1. Two Brazilian black belt competitors as professors (Rafael and Gustavo).
  2. Largest academy space in the city.
  3. Lowest prices per month.
  4. Strong technical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction.

Our tuition program incentives during the Stay-At-Home period

During this period of time we want to offer all of our current and recently-former students a way to continue to train and continue to be part of GFTeam Canada as a student when things are back to normal. We know its not easy for anyone. We consider our students our family and we don’t let family suffer alone.

Here is the breakdown of benefits for those students able to continue paying full tuition, can only pay half-tuition or those who are temporarily unable to make payments at all.

Together, we will make it through this stronger

What we want to make sure you understand is that we appreciate everyone who has been able to continue to support us and that we are thankful for our GFTeam Canada family. We know people are stressed out and dealing with issues they may not be sharing with others. We want you to know that you have a home with us, regardless of your current situation. We know that better days are ahead and that you have to adapt to deal with situations. This is our way of thanking you and ensuring that we will all be able to continue to learn and practice our jiu-jitsu, keep yourself healthy and deal with your stress in positive ways. We will all get through it together.

“If you found you have lost your job and can’t continue to pay. Don’t quit. Don’t worry. You can continue to train with us for free until you are able to begin paying again. We do not want you to stop training your jiu-jitsu. One year. Two years. It doesn’t matter. During this time, you will need good exercise and good support from your family. When someone is down, we will not be ones to knock you down further. We will make it through together.” – Professor Rafael

If you are currently under duress and need to move from full payment to these other options, please reach out to Professor Rafael by email or directly by phone so we can make the adjustments.
